Discussion II Interprofessional Collaboration
Interprofessional Collaboration Module 2 has presented a wealth of information to assist you in preparing for your future role in collaborating with other professionals. For this discussion, you will explore how you have observed interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in the work setting in the past and how you might be more effective with IPC in the future. For the discussion please address the following topics:
1. Briefly define IPC. How does IPC differ from interdisciplinary collaboration? In one paragraph describe an event in a professional healthcare setting where IPC was attempted. Was IPC effective? Based on the required reading by Sukhera (2022) what influences and biases may have been present in the IPC that you described?
2. It is important that you approach your future role will a good understanding of IPC. From the required readings, identify and commit to two improvement goals based on the sub-competencies of the Core Competencies of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPEC, 2016, pages 11 to 14). Give an example of the reason you selected each of the two improvement goals. Cite each sub-competency that you will further develop including the page number of the sub-competency. In addition to the two sub-competencies adopted for improvement, identify two Interprofessional Professionalism behaviors that are important to effective collaboration.
3. As you continue to prepare for your role on the IPC team, consider how you respond when you are feeling defensive (based on the presentation from Jim Tamm)? If you are responding in a defensive manner, what action might be helpful in redirecting your communication? As you consider the six key points from the video by Joy Doll, Cultivating Collaboration in Health Care: The Journey of an Accidental Expert, which of the six key points do you believe is the most important? Why?
Please see the scoring rubric located at the three dots at the top of this discussion for additional scoring information. The due date for the initial post and the cross post will be located on the course schedule found in the Start Here module
